Worship Commission

The Worship Commission works to enhance the quality of parish liturgical celebrations as well as fostering the spiritual growth of parishioners. One way the commission accomplishes this is recruiting and training ministers to serve at our liturgical celebrations as lectors, ushers, greeters, coordinators, communion distributors, and choir. The Commission usually meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm except during the summer.

Staff:

Arts & Environment

Purpose: The mission of the Art & Environment committee is to visually create a worship space that reflects the themes of the liturgical seasons through the use of color, fabric, flowers/plants, banners, lighting, statuary, sacred images and many original elements and to enhance the holiness of the ministry celebrated there. The character and beauty of the worship space should reflect a feeling of mystery and hospitality, enhancing the celebration and inspiring the assembly in prayer.  We need those gifted in design, carpentry, sewing, floral arranging, electrical, and mostly those who just want to participate in the beautification of our worship space.

Ministers of Communion

Purpose: The Communion rite is the heart and center – the ritual climax – of the entire Eucharistic liturgy.  Everything at Mass is directed toward the moment of communion in which we, fed with his own Body and Blood, are made one with the Lord.  Eucharistic Ministers are called to this most beautiful ministry.  They have the honor of ministering Our Lord’s Body and Blood to their brothers and sisters in Christ.

Lectors

Purpose: As ministers of the Word, Lectors are called to do what John the Baptist did.  Proclaim over and over again, “Prepare the way of the Lord!”  They are the herald’s voice crying out in the desert.  “Make a straight path for the Lord.”  The role of the Lector is to bring God’s Word in Scripture more easily into the lives of all who have ears to hear, namely the assembly.  Therefore, they should strive to proclaim the Word of God in a way that touches the hearts of all who come to the Liturgy in the hope of challenging them to live that Word.

Music Ministry

Purpose: Throughout the history of Roman Catholic worship, music has been of great importance. As stated in Music in Catholic Worship, "Music should assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them and to nourish and strengthen their interior commitment of faith."

Information: Currently there are four groups of music ministers actively serving our parish. These dedicated volunteers give both time and talent to enhance the faith life of those present in the assembly.

The Sunday Choir leads the congregation in song at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday liturgy and all major celebrations. Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome. Rehearsals are in church or in the library during inclement weather on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm and 9:15 on Sunday Mornings.  The styles of music used by the choir are both traditional and contemporary.  Along with the Sunday Choir we are assisted by the Children’s Choir.   They sing twice a month throughout the school year.   Practices are twice a month on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Regular attendance at rehearsals is imperative in order for the group to grow musically, spiritually and socially.

The "Contemporary Ensemble" has a long-standing tradition of serving as music minister for two weekend Masses a month. The group is made up of singers and instrumentalists, with an emphasis on piano and guitar, who prepare music from a wide range of contemporary musical styles.  The primary mission of the group is to enrich the congregation’s participation in the liturgy through music that is upbeat, inspirational and reflective.

Also we have a parish "Youth Ensemble" which brings together singers and instrumentalists of the parish, teen through adult.  This group provides liturgical music for the 12:00 mass throughout the year.  The style of music used will be predominately contemporary.

Please contact the Music Director if you are interested in participating in any of these music groups.  All are welcome!

Servers

Purpose: The role of the server is integral to the normal celebration of the Mass.  Servers assist the priest during the Mass and at other liturgical celebrations.  They may be adult or youth, male or female.  Servers prepare the sanctuary for Mass, assist in the preparation of the gifts during Mass, and insure the sanctuary is in order after Mass.  If you are in the 5th grade or above, you are invited to participate in this very helpful and rewarding ministry.

Ushers/Greeters

Purpose: Recent understanding and study about the nature of the worship assembly has given a new significance and status to the role of the usher.  In former times, the collection of money and the order keeping function of the role took precedence over other functions.  However, the usher’s role of “official host” now takes priority.  As a minister of hospitality, people should be made to feel welcome when they come to worship with us; whether, it is their first time here or if they have been with us for years.
