Ministry Description: The Ministry of Bereavement committee answers the need to serve the grieving people of our parish family in a special way. There is need for words of faith, comfort and encouragement as well as various acts of kindness for those who mourn. A very important aspect of this ministry is that of assisting the family of the deceased in preparing the funeral liturgy. Another area in which we can use assistance is preparing food for the family after the funeral has taken place.
In all that it does, the Ministry of Bereavement committee is a positive sign of Christian love and support within the community.
Purpose: Volunteers clean the church on a weekly basis to insure that our parishioners worship in an atmosphere that will be spiritually uplifting.
Information: Cleaning services are performed on either a Friday or Saturday morning each week. Volunteers usually clean once a month and spend one to two hours dusting and cleaning the sacristy, sanctuary, choir loft, and other areas. New volunteers are always welcome.

Purpose: The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a ministry of volunteers who administer to the poor in our Parish area. Contact is made as the result of calls received by our St. Vincent de Paul voicemail line from people in need.
Information: Clients are given assistance with food, rent, utility bills, clothing and other basic needs. Clients are visited and interviewed by members to determine their needs. The work of the St. Vincent de Paul is sustained by the generosity of our parishioners through fifth Sunday collections, food drives and the Christmas giving tree. Without this assistance the conference would not exist. St. Vincent de Paul also manages our Thomas More House at 804 Ohio Pike which is a short-term temporary home for families in need.

The Elizabeth Ministry, established in 2002, responds to the joys and sorrows of a woman and her family’s life during the childbearing years. This outreach includes pregnancy and pregnancy complications, adoption, birth, infant or child crisis, special needs children, fertility and infertility concerns, miscarriage, stillbirth, infant or child death, and grand parenting issues. The Elizabeth Ministry responds to these needs by offering “like to like” ministry through personal visits, meals, assisting with household tasks and errands, small remembrance gifts, and prayers. We also maintain a lending library of parenting-related books. Events hosted each year include the:
Most recently the Elizabeth Ministry created the 3rd Parish Cookbook: “STM Family Favorites Cookbook,” available through Maria Pour. Anyone in need of a minister or wishing to volunteer with the ministry can contact one of our officers listed, E-mail the ministry by clicking here, or view the Parish Website for more information.

Sponsor the Elizabeth Ministry
The Elizabeth Ministry provides families with gifts and resources that serve as a reminder that our church community cares and supports them! We rely on the generosity of our church members to sponsor items for our Gift and Resource Kits. Items needed are stationary and envelopes, greeting cards, journals, laser printer paper, and gift bags. Monetary donations are used prayerfully to help those who turn to us for encouragement and comfort. Elizabeth Ministry is a non-profit ministry and is only able to provide services as resources permit.
If you’d like to become a sponsor, click here to fill out the Sponsor/Donor Form and follow the instructions. All donations can be dropped off at the parish office or in the box by the Blessing Bouquet at the side door of the church entrance nearest the grotto. Please note “Elizabeth Ministry” on your donations. We thank you for your consideration.

The FOCCUS instrument assists the engaged couple in preparing for marriage by enabling them to focus on their communication skills with each other. Parish volunteers minister as teamed to coordinate the instrument and then discuss and interpret it with the engaged couple. All couples being married in our parish participate in the FOCCUS program.

Purpose: Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit we follow the gospels, we educate ourselves and lead our parish in fulfilling our Baptismal call to discipleship through service and action to provide for the common good of all those in need.
Responsibilities: Catholic social teaching calls us to serve those in need. We identify and develop resources, volunteer our services, organize events, for those in need and serve as their advocates for justice by changing the structures that deny people their dignity and rights as children of God. We strive to respect life from conception to natural death.

Have you ever experienced a difficult time in your life
and wanted someone to talk to about your situation? Difficult issues such as
the loss of a job or a loved one or receiving a medical diagnosis of a
serious illness happens to each of us. The opportunity to talk to someone
who is trained and has experience in dealing with issues similar to yours
may be invaluable. In our mobile society today many people often find
themselves without family members nearby to help when these trying
circumstances arise. St. Thomas More is initiating the Stephen
Ministry in our parish to fill this need. Stephen Ministers receive fifty
hours of training on how to be an active listener as a caregiver. They are
not cure givers. That role is reserved for Our Lord. Typically, the Stephen
Minister meets with the care seeker one hour a week at a mutually agreed
location. The Stephen Minister meets twice a month with other Stephen
Ministers to discuss the ongoing
care relationship and offer each other suggestions for each relationship.
The identity of the care seekers is kept anonymous and all care seeker
information is held in strict confidence. The bi-monthly meetings are
designed to be quality control checks on the ministry relationships. Male
Stephen Ministers are assigned to male care seekers and female Stephen
Ministers are assigned to female care seekers.
If you would like to have a Stephen Minister get in touch with you call Deacon John Convery at (513) 753- 2568 to arrange to have a Stephen Ministry Coordinator contact you for an initial interview to determine if a Stephen Minister assignment is appropriate for your circumstances. If that determination is positive a Stephen Minister will be assigned to you. I personally was trained to be a Stephen Minister and a Stephen Leader to conduct the required training ten years ago. It was the first ministry I felt called to respond to and was the start of my faith journey to become a Deacon. We look forward to serving you in Christ.
The Welcome Ministry reaches out to the new parishioners of our growing faith community and makes a personal contact to ensure they feel welcome. Its main responsibility is to make the initial contact with the new members by visiting their homes with a packet of parish information and baked good. The time commitment of this ministry varies as it depends on the number of new parishioners as well as the number of volunteers for this ministry. Welcome Committee members rotate on a weekly basis to deliver parish information to new parishioners. We are always looking for friendly people to join this ministry.

Ministry Description: M.O.M.S: The Ministry of Mother’s Sharing is a group of mothers of all ages that learn to share the stress, concerns, and positive experiences that have influenced personal growth. Experience the support of other women as you discover the depth of your spirituality. This ministry is for women who devote their time of the spiritual and physical upbringing of their children, who live stressful lives, who live with many demands on their time and energy, and who need a place to receive personal and spiritual nurturing. The only requirements are the ability to keep confidentiality, the desire to grow by sharing, and the ability to support other mothers in their personal spiritual growth.
