Spiritual Adoption Program Minimize

Spiritual Adoption Program - What is the Spiritual Adoption Program?

It is a simple program that provides the parish an opportunity to join together and pledge to pray for babies in danger of abortion. While the child(ren) will remain unknown to his or her “spiritual parent”, God knows who the child is. Many people have found that naming ‘their child’ helps to keep them focused on the reality that their prayers are helping to save a particular baby from the harm of abortion.

The purpose of the Spiritual Adoption Program is:

• To educate adults and children about the development of the pre-born child,
• To encourage prayer for those contemplating abortion, that they will respond to God’s grace and welcome their child into life,
• An opportunity to recognize the humanity of an unborn child before birth,
• A program to instill in adults and children that life begins at conception,
• An opportunity to see the growth of the baby during all 9 months in a gentle way,
• An opportunity to assist mothers in need with a baby shower of donated baby gifts at the conclusion of the program,
• An opportunity to reinforce the Catholic Teaching that life begins at conception.

School and PSR - This program will take place in the classroom in a simpler way. For the younger students, the prayers are focused on the health of the unborn. For the older students they will also pray for the life of the unborn baby. The students will not name their babies, but pray for all unborn children. Visit our school website to learn more about the Prayer Program for Life and access additional materials available for school and home use.

Other Programs:

Memorial Service for Children Born and Unborn – A Prayer service will be held Oct. 1, 2009 to pray for those babies who we have lost due from perhaps a miscarriage, child loss, or abortion.

Baby Shower – a baby shower will be held in May. Parishioners and students are invited to bring baby gifts for the unborn. Donations will be given to a pregnancy help center.

We want to thank the Diocese of Covington and the Archdiocese of Baltimore for providing resources and inspiring the Spiritual Adoption Program, and Prayer Program for Life.
