The Ohio Academy of Science has selected St. Thomas More School for the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Youth Science Opportunities. Ninety schools in the state, including seven in Cincinnati will receive this honor based on their accomplishments during the 2008-09 school year. The Ohio Academy of Science initiated this program in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Education to stimulate student scientific research and extend science education opportunities beyond traditional classroom activities. Students at St. Thomas More frequently participate in hands-on science activities in the classroom and in extracurricular activities such as Lego Robotics. Students in the junior high classes prepare for a science fair each year, and top rated projects go on to earn honors at regional, district and state fairs.
