Purpose: Catholic sacraments are essential to what it means to live the life of a Catholic. Sacraments presuppose faith and strengthen faith. To participate in the celebration of any Sacrament; one must have an understanding of the meaning and purpose of that Sacrament and be open to the grace of the Sacrament in forming one’s life.
Information: Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist are presented in grade two. Continued religious education after first Reconciliation and First Eucharist is also essential if there is to be deepened understanding of the meaning and practice of these sacraments in the life of the child AND family. Youths in grades 3 or higher who have not received the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist will need to enter a special preparation process corresponding with the Rite of Christian Initiation arranged through the DRE and the Pastor with the parents’ involvement. The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated during the 8th grade year. Candidates participate in formation programs to prepare them for this Sacrament.
